You will only need half an hour by boat to get to the island of Delos and two to three hours there to be able to take in all the attractions, but this will be an excursion of a lifetime you will always remember
The Mykonian fishing boats (caïques) service a daily route* for the island of Delos during the summer season. The departure is from the small port that is across the church of St. Nicholas, mainly in the morning hours.
The boat ride doesn't last over half an hour, the island tour however will take up to at least two hours. It is advised that you follow a tour guide, if not, a guidebook will be necessary.
There is a souvenir shop and a small snack bar within the archaeological site. Prefer to buy your guidebook from there as it is available at a better price than anywhere else but do not rest assured that you might find any provisions needed at the snack bar· it has run out many times!
Have plenty of water with you, comfortable shoes and suitable clothing to protect yourself from the sun. The archaeological site, which expands to almost the entire island, is an open air site and its exploration will fascinate you.
The attractions include sacred and religious buildings, arcades, altars, temples and places of worship, impressive mosaics and well-preserved statues, but also ruins from a training ground, a stadium and a gymnasium.
The museum found on the island displays an extensive collection of statues, ancient vases, figurines, jewelry, small items as well as mosaics and sculptures from the Classical period, and a pottery collection from the Prehistoric to the Hellenistic period.
